NIC Assam State Centre VC Studio gutted in fire

Fire on the evening of September 10, 2008, destroyed the video conferencing studio of NIC Assam State Centre housed at the Janata Bhawan, Dispur. Network routers, modems, switches, hubs, VC equipments, video recorder, several UPS and battery banks, computers, furniture, air conditioners etc. were gutted in the fire that broke out at around 5:45 pm. The total loss is estimated to be over Rs.1 crore. Network services and video conferencing services are affected. Action to restore the services has been taken up on top priority by NIC authorities.

It may be mentioned that the VC studio was the first such facility to be installed in the entire North East region way back in August 1998. The VC facilities were utilized by many departments, Chief Minister, etc. of Assam Government, several central government department offices and institutions for official meetings. It was also used for regular meetings to monitor the progress during the establishment and later for regular activities of the Community Information Centres (CIC) in the region. Review meetings for promotions of NIC officials of Assam were also held periodically. Training sessions through VC were also conducted from time to time using the facility.

Avail new Identity Cards
