The Regional Passport Office, Guwahati the only passport office in the North-East is responsible for issuing passport to the citizens residing in Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland & Arunachal Pradesh. Everyday this office receives about fifty applications. The number of application increases during the time of Haj.

As a part of NIC's project to computerize the Regional Passport Offices in India, the Guwahati office has also been computerized. The Public Utility Counter has been inaugurated in June 2001. The computerization has helped the general public seeking passports in several ways like:
